Your’s & My Red Cross ~ The Journey

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

Whether you know it or not, you have a Red Cross story. Come learn about the “Helping Hand of the Red Cross.”

Jill Orton, Region Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross serving Kansas, Nebraska and SW Iowa, will tell her Red Cross story, addressing recent changes to become more sustainable with the ability to better serve more people.  She will demonstrate why the Red Cross is a great place to work and volunteer, as well as an organization to partner with and support financially.

This year the Red Cross celebrates a century of service in Nebraska.  Jill will speak to the future vision and steps taken during the economic downturn to right-size the blood banking business and the organization’s transformational leadership.

Money is a key component to the future vision. On average 91cents of every dollar spent goes back into Red Cross programs and services. The American Red Cross is not a government agency, and is funded by the generosity of local communities, corporate organizations, and individuals.

The organizational aspiration is to align itself with donor preferences and be the best possible steward of donor dollars. The goal is to raise funds to enable mission growth with a sustainable steady state (blue sky) cost structure and full service delivery that includes recovery when funds allow, during disaster mode (gray skies).

The American Red Cross workforce strives every day to raise time, money and blood. During our Nebraska Centennial anniversary year, we will be rolling out a Prepared Communities Initiative; host a Gala event in June; promote key blood drives throughout the year; and introduce a Home Fire Campaign canvassing event in October.

Come, join the movement!
